Competition for primary schools to win free solar panels

Primary schools are being urged to take part in a competition to win solar panels, crowd-funded by Friends of the Earth supporters.

Pupils are invited to submit creative entries, such as artwork, photos or film, demonstrating why they’d love their school to be powered by solar energy.

The winning school, chosen by public vote at the start of the new year, will receive a solar installation free of charge. The panels will make thousands of pounds every year for the school – meaning more to spend on playgrounds, libraries and trips.

The competition is a part of Friends of the Earth’s RUN ON SUN campaign, which is supported by players of People’s Postcode lottery. The campaign aims to make it easier for schools to benefit from solar power.

Rachel Fulcher of Suffolk Coastal Friends of the Earth said: ‘Being powered by the sun provides a fantastic opportunity for local primary schools to save thousands of pounds through clean energy. The competition itself will encourage young people to learn about solar power. Whether it’s your children’s school or the one you went to years ago, nominate it for the chance to win – and be quick!’

Bread making success

Eight attended our Greeniversity bread making course - and ate the proceeds including pizza, pecan parmesan and oregano focccaccia, cheesy rings, chick pea coconut nan roll and brown loaves. No need for lunch after that. Many thanks to Lyn Gray our excellent tutor.

Hiil Farm Visit

19 of us visited Hill Farm Gestingthorpe on a lovely sunny day. Many thanks to Ashley Cooper for a very informative and interesting guided tour of his award winning farm and museum of Roman finds. We finished the day with a picnic under an enormous spreading oak tree - a good time was had by all.

Transition Sudbury needs your VOTE!

Transition Sudbury needs your VOTE!  As you may know it has been short-listed as one of three projects for a Greenest Community Award but the winner will be chosen from public voting

The film does not reflect all the things which Jane said, which is a pity.  However, the information at the foot of the page and the link to the the Transition blog is excellent.  As you willl see the Transition group has achieved a huge amount in a short time, making a real difference at 'grass roots' level - no apology for the pun!

We need as many people as possible to vote for Transition Sudbury as we are up against two major projects.  So please cascade the email below to all your contacts, whether that be your Church, friends, business colleagues, and ask them to vote for Transition Sudbury.  

I found the voting process not very straightforward but found that it was necessary to first watch the video, then press the pink VOTE NOW  box on the left-hand side, then scroll down to the bottom of the page on the left, check that the Transition circle has a green centre and then press vote.  You may only vote once!
